please answer

Hello, I have a question. Does it matter the size of the moleskine Japanese Album? I was very happy to open the package from amazon and I freaked out when I saw two very small moleskines (3-1/3x5-1/2) I guess I did not pay attention to the size. Is it ok? or should I buy another? I see that all of you have the bigger ones.

New Banner

I hope no one minds, but I thought a new banner for the blog would be nice. I don't get to play with graphics as much as I used to, so I started fiddling around and came up with the above image.

Of course, I'm still staring at Nan's lovely map Moly trying to decide what to add to it. I suppose I could print out the banner and paste it in, map and all... ah procrastination!

Almost finished...

I've been working on my entry in my book and have decided to go with a 'What's in Your Bag?' theme. Now, I have taken this pretty literally, but please interpret this any way you like. I'm interested in what sort of stuff people carry around, practical or emotional :-)

As soon as I'm happy with the final result you'll hear from me and I will send it onwards!

My first page

I finished the first page in my moleskine today, and it's all packaged up ready to post tomorrow.

My theme is anything from your imagination that isn't based on anything from the real world - so any kind of shapes, patterns etc. I hope that makes sense - I've struggled putting this theme into words. I'm not too fussed though - draw anything you like and I'll be happy!

Hi!
I'm Kathleen and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I'm a property lawyer by day, by night a masked... illustrator, writer and translator. I grew up on a cattle property in western Queensland, studied law, German and literature at uni and am still teaching myself art.

I really admire the work of many illustrators, but especially Pauline Baynes, Maurice Sendak and Charles Vess. I do most of my drawing with markers in my sketchbooks, but I also work with scratchboard, pen and ink and digital.

Hello from Jenn

My turn for introductions. Hi all, I'm Jenn from Massachusetts in the US. I'm 38, a printmaker and work part time in a contemporary art museum. I've always been creative, dabbled in watercolors and am a life-long knitter. I was a web designer up until a couple years ago when I realized I really didn't have much interest in pursuing it any further. Around the same time I discovered Etsy, flickr and then woodcut printmaking and I've been hooked on all three ever since. Now I'm trying to figure out how to balance life, art and making a living.



This is my first moleskine exchange and I'm very excited to be a part of such a varied group of artists.

Hello! I am so happy I am in this group. 

I have two years waiting for this to happen and I am very excited to start. 

I am 32 years old, I have a major in Graphic Design and been doing art since I can remember, my mother is a painter and I learned a lot of things from her even though we have very different taste in art.I also do a little bit of freelance illustration which I have illustrated two children's books here in Mexico. 

I am afraid of airplanes, I don't drink milk,I hate to look at pictures of me, I am very organized, I love strawberries and my favorite desert is creme brulee.

I got married this year, six months ago with my boyfriend of 12 years.We live with our 2 guinnea pigs: Betty and Veronica.

I discovered sketchbooks three years ago and I could not stop doing them since then. I love to paint with a lot of medias, draw and collage. I don't like to do my work on canvas just paper. 

I am working as an art teacher in Monterrey, Mexico. This is my fourth year teaching kids.

Introduction - Amy

My name's Amy Mebberson and I'm a cartoonist. I'm so sorry.
I was born and bred in Sydney, Australia and I now live in Portland, OR with my husband. I was a Senior inbetweener and Assistant Animator with Disneytoons' Sydney studio until we were closed down in mid 2006 as part of the great 2D purge. I moved to the US and did two graphic novels for Tokyopop called 'Divalicious!'. After some occasional guest-art for Tokyopop and a lot of project dead ends, I now work as a freelance Assistant Animator with LAIKA studios in Portland and produce my webcomic Thorn. I'm an old-school cartoonist with a passion for mid-century stuff and love making people laugh. I have had no formal art training and would like to be either a syndicated comic strip cartoonist or work on Feature Animated films. Relaunching one of the great 80's girl cartoons in comic form would be great, too, if I can get the licensing.

Like any true Aussie, just keep the beer coming and I'm a happy woman.

It feels a little intimidating signing up with such good 'serious' moly artists, but if no one minds an explosion of cartoony stuff in the middle of their books, then hopefully we can all get along :)

Hello! My name is Carlos (but you can call me chensio)! I live in Mallorca, Spain,Im 21, and I am studying Graphic Design and multimedia (these days are the final exams, so thats why I am so busy...)and if I had luck...this is my last year. Im working too, in a design and packaging company called GrupoBdeB.

I love to draw since I was a kid. And after art, music is my life, specially non-comercial music, I love it !! I listen hours and hours of music everyday.I have a band with a friend called Twin Paradox. Also I have a little little home studio recording called Super Strings Records.

Anyhoo, I've made a little progress on my Moly and thought I'd share it by way of starting my introduction.



I created the sign in pages. Yes there are two Molys there, you aren't seeing double. I'll be sending one of these one its journey around the world, and the other one is going to stay with me and be filled (hopefully) with copies of whatever I put in yours. I guarantee I'll do yours, we'll see if I'll be able to keep up on mine.



This is me. This is me at the end of the day. Sheesh. Please don't look too closely. Ok, that's enough, keep reading. :-P

Anyway, I'm the art director for a publishing company. I've worked in publishing for 18 years now, and I love it. Before that I was in college getting a BA in English Literature. How did I go from a literature major to an art profession? I started as an editorial assistant with zero computer experience. When I started working at DBI Books, they were still using galleys and film, and doing page make up on blueline boards. Ah those were the days. They lasted about a year into my career, and then we got a computer!!! Whoo hooo! One computer shared by two, and sometimes three people.

I was brought into the world of desktop publishing by a man I still revere as the very best mentor of all time—Sheldon F. He taught me everything. About seven years into my career DBI was purchased by another company, and operations were eventually folded into the new parent company. I went to work at CRM, and I've been there ever since.

It's been a long and twisty road that has led from there to here, and it really doesn't bear a rehash at this time.

In the past few years I've plunged into blogging, oohing and ahing at the wonderful work I see on other's blogs and on Flickr. Although my work still throws me a curve ball every now and then, there is quite a bit of routine to my professional day. I enjoy stretching to meet new challenges, so if I have to, I'll go looking for them.

Also, I would very much like to end up in possession of the kind of art I've seen posted in the Moly-X blogs. These are truly beautiful pieces of art!

I'm really looking forward to this experience, and I hope to create some art you'll be pleased to call your own too.

I have a degree in fine art, painting is my main interest... I sell sometimes, exhibit sometimes and I taught for a while but don't teach now. I have three sons, two dogs and a very patient husband, we live in the countryside , and to borrow a friends phrase " I don't want a quiet life, I just want to be able to control the volume " :-)

I have plenty of time to indulge my molskine/ art addiction . This will be my 4th moly exchange group,and I am really looking forward to seeing how such a large group will work out....our books will be fascinating and well travelled :-)

My name is Yoda and now I'm working on my thesis wich it will be about children book illustrators, after that I'm thinking about a master's but still don't know. I studied Visual Arts and my area is engraving. I live with my two cats and my sister Lluvia (Rain). For a short period I studied filmmaking but was very expensive so I had to quit :( I hope someday I'll continue my studies, in the mean time I'm working on some animations. My passion are movies, sometimes I find that I can't say all I want to by just drawing things. I also love music and books. I have 8 tattooes, 6 of them where my own desing and there will be more to come. I'm 27 years old (my birthday is on november 5th). I hate Xmas and love Halloween.

I been using moleskine for a year now and yes, it is very addictive ;)

OK, I'll introduce myself too.

My name's Ste Pickford, and I'm a video game developer from the UK.

I'm completely new to this moleskine exchange thing. I only discovered flickr a few days ago, after looking for somewhere better to upload a bunch of sketches I did on holiday. Previously I'd uploaded sketches to facebook, but that seems limited to only other facebook users / people in your friendlist, and I wanted somewhere I could make them visible to anyone. At first I thought I might get kicked off flickr because I was using it for sketches rather than photos, but I was delighted to discover that there are seemingly millions of other people around the world sharing their sketchbooks.

I've been hooked ever since, and now I have a good root around in complete strangers' sketchbooks every morning.

I've also started on a mad old sketchbook scanning binge, which I'll upload over the next few weeks. I'm most looking forward to seeing all my random doodles from different sources over the years arranged in chronological order once they're all in the system. I wonder if I'll see any progression, or just repetition?

I've been making video games for over 20 years. About four years back I left the mainstream games business and went 'indie' with my brother, and now I work from home, self publishing my own games at http://www.zee-3.com.

I've been employed as an artist or designer most of my adult life, but most of my 'artistic' work is computer based, and fairly technical (a lot of 3D stuff these days), and in between there's a lot of documentation and scripting and other non-arty things, so it's actually fairly rare that I get to do any proper drawing for work.

I've decided that I don't do nearly enough drawing, other than little doodles and scribbles in my work notes (which often get cut and pasted into my sketchbooks), so this year I've set out to draw and sketch much more, before any talent I have evaporates completely.

I'm a bit nervous about spoiling other people's beautiful sketchbooks, but looking forward to it all the same.

I also draw comic strips now and again, in my spare time.

Introducing ME: Anna Denise

Hi all!
I thought I'd start off by introducing myself.

My name is Anna Denise van der Reijden and I'm 24. I live in The Netherlands (which is right here) and have just graduated from Utrecht University. I did a BA in humanities, a MA in Art History and have recently finished an MA in Art Management and Policy (if you'd like to read my thesis on Internet art, you can check it out here). I have just started working as production assistant at the design biennial in Amsterdam and hope to continue working in the visual arts and design field for a long long time.

I live with my boyfriend Ashwin of four years, although we're now temporarily staying with my dad. I love doing yoga, I love fashion, design, music, Moleskine notebooks (it's an addiction, I swear) and I love creating art. I started using a daily Moleskine on the 1st of January 2007 and am now working in me second Moleskine. I got involved in Moly_X in the beginning of this year and this is my fourth group. I am in group 4, 13, portrait 1.
