I received Ste's Moly from Lynne this morning! Hooray!

It's very impressive and I must say I'm a little afraid to start since both Ste and Lynne are so very precise in their linework, it's amazing! Will post pictures of the book later today!

Encyclopaedia of Improbable Games

I'm here! Late, but here! My moly is themed "An Encyclopaedia of Improbable Games", and can be any sort of game: board games, card games, skipping games, dangerous games, bizarre, twisted, excessively complicated games - as long as they're improbable!

Mine is a proposal for a board game called "Heroine Content - Remix!", played with dice and turntables and cards and spinners and volcanoes. The title is more than a nod to the Heroine Content blog, and the game takes some of my favourite heroines and throws them into each others' universes, because I do want to know how Isabella Bird would react if she met Han Solo, or how Anne of Green Gables would cope in a bar brawl in Tibet.

Now I want to make this game! Or at least some Bad Luck Monkey cards...

Red Skies

My entry for Amy's Moly with the theme "Red". All I could think of was "Red skies at night, sailors delight... red skies at morning, sailors take warning."

Map of Westport

Well I finally decided to do a map of Westport, Massachusetts, one of the places I grew up and always in my heart. I annotated it with historical facts, both of the town and a few of my own life. I took a few liberties with scale, and removed a couple ponds that I didn't really have room for, but you get the idea anyway. A few additional details added after this photo was taken. Watercolor and marker.

Amy's Moly Is Moving On

Hello all! Haven't fallen off the face of the Earth, I've just been occupied with a job change. Busy, nervous times to be going through one of those.

Anyway, finally getting down to working on Amy's "Red" Moly was a wonderful distraction. Hope you like the results, Amy.



It was really handy doing the things twice. I did the pencil first in mine, then Amy's. Then the pen in mine, thought it was too heavy, so I switched to a thin Pilot for Amy's. Worked out the kinks of the colors and shading on mine, and did it better on Amy's. You get the idea.



A close-up of the lighthouses. Mine is on top and far wonkier than Amy's.

I'll be shipping this one off to Jen tomorrow. Then I'll be digging into Yoda's witches Moly—what a great time of year to be working on that theme! Maybe it'll get me in the holiday spirit.

My entry in Lynne's Moly

For my entry in Lynne's 'superstitions' book I chose to draw the linden (sometimes called lime) tree.

In ancient Germanic folklore this tree used to house the goddess Freya. The guardian of homes and wells and goddess of love. Houses were often built underneath a linden tree and weddings celebrated underneath them. Having a linden tree close to a well was considered a sign of prosperity. I chose this because when I was younger I used to love reading a fairy tale in which a prominent role was reserved for a linden tree / Freya.

Jen's theme was your favourite animal. I've never seen one of these elusive beauties alive, but love watching them on the telly when Springwatch is on.

Too late to post today, so I'll get it in the post to Lynne on Monday.

Final version

I finished this entry a couple of days ago and have sent it onto Carlos! Also, I JUST today received Lynne's WONDERFUL Moleskine!!! It's amazing in 'person'! Hooray! I will try to do an entry this weekend, for next week I will be attending a wedding in California. I will keep you all updated!

Amy - Witches

My entry in Lady Orlando's 'witches' moly.
She started with Elpheba, so I HAD to do her better half - Glinda the Good.

Unfortunately, the scanner didn't pick up the extremely blingy rhinestones on her wand and tiara. Don't worry, the book still closes just fine with only a very tiny bulge ;)
